Layout Information
- Modern era HO scale layout controlled using Digitrax Duplex hardware
- 35’ x 37’ walkout basement (overlooks the CPR mainline at Keith East interlocking on the Laggan sub)
- ~10 scale miles of main line – including helix and 2 reverse loops
- 1350+ cars
- 150+ engines
- 49 staging tracks
- Completely signaled and can be dispatched in APB or CTC mode.
- Use JMRI Operations Pro Version 5.8 for car routing.
Signal System Information
- Designed by Kevin Rudko (Signalogic Systems, Edmonton, AB)
- Hardware from Signalogic Systems (www.signalogicsystems.com)
- 130 signals (one, two and 3-headed dwarfs and tall masts)
- 23 interlockings
- 70 Tortoise and 14 Peco main line switch machines
- 128 block detectors (current detection) ~500 cars have wheelsets with 10K resistors
- Signals display aspects in accordance with Canadian Railroad Operating Rules (CROR)
- Speed restrictions through switches are set via the signal program.
- Speed Display on Digitax throttles indicate train speed in HO scale miles per hour.
Dispatching
- We can operate layout with no dispatchers in Absolute Permissive Block mode (APB) or using 1 or 2 dispatchers in Centralized Traffic Control mode (CTC).
- Switches can be thrown on computer screen or from fascia installed toggles/pushbuttons
Signals
- Purchased from Custom Signal Systems (www.customsignalsystems.com/) and built according to Canadian Pacific dimensions.
Resistor Mounted Wheelsets
- I make 28”, 33” and 36” wheelsets with 10K ohm resistors installed on the axel. One axel installed on approx. every 3rd car.
Mousemux
- Free software that allows 2 cursors on one screen controlled independently by 2 mice (http://mousemux.com)
Backdrops
- Purchased from Backdrop Warehouse (http://www.backdropwarehouse.com/indexbdwh.htm)
Weathering
- Over 97% of the layout is weathered. Cars, engines and buildings are weathered using awater colour paint called Gouache that is applied using makeup sponges.
