Operations are the key to Mark Johnson’s freelance Alberta Great Western. This HO and HOn3 layout is set in western Alberta circa 1957. Steam survives on this line, working alongside first generation diesels on way freights, through freights and passenger trains.

The skillfully designed, medium sized layout is a double deck walk around with duck under access and can keep four or five operators busy for a 4 hour session with plenty of opportunity for switching, timetable operations and car cards and waybills. Train control uses Digitrax simplex radio with support for Wi-Fi throttles.
